Season’s Greetings from Hong Kong.  No, I haven’t heard anyone botch the words to  “Deck The Halls.”  Call me a Scrooge, but I’ve never gotten really excited over Christmas songs, probably because there’s a limited Christmas song repertoire, so the songs are inevitably over-played.  But, this year, I’ve enjoyed them.  I guess I haven’t heard that many songs here, so now I find myself singing songs to all the guys in the office.  I hope they appreciate my beautiful voice.

December 08 China 022 The fellahs and I went up to China for a little “hot pot” this weekend.  What’s a hot pot?  Take a pot, heat it up, put some water and spices in it, order some meats and veggies, and throw ‘em all together.  That’s a hot pot.

Ever since I arrived, everyone’s always talking about going to Shenzhen with Derek for a hot pot.  Finally I got to go.  Derek lives across the border in Red  China, or The People’s Republic of China.  It’s big, sprawling, and I’m much happier seeing it through my window from this side of the border.

December Research and Work 035Dim Sum is like brunch or a late lunch – just another meal.  There are usually dumplings,  sea-food, and desserts that look like jello squares – they call ‘em “sweets”.  There are also traditional Chinese dishes like chicken’s feet, pickled eggs, pig’s knuckle, and, my favorite, suckling pig.  It’s delicious.

I went for Dim Sum with some of the crew after work on Thursday.  The picture is of me eating a chicken’s foot.

It’s been quite a week.  I went for a bike to Tai Mo Shan observatory on Saturday.  The climb averages about 8%, but there are some places that are a lot steeper (some greater than 12%).  It’s about a 6 mile climb.  At the top, there are cows grazing and hikers hiking.  It’s a nice view.

I went Christmas shopping after my ride then got fitted for a styling suit.

I went for a run then a swim today.  And I just watched a hilarious movie – How to Lose Friends and Alienate People.

Tomorrow’s business as usual.
